As a graduate with a bachelor degree in social work from an international institution, you may be eligible for up to 19 hours of advanced standing credit toward our Master of Social Work degree. To be eligible for advanced standing, you will be required to complete the International Social Work Degree Recognition and Evaluation Service (ISWDRES) application

The Brown School will require all students with a bachelor degree in social work from an international institution to complete the ISWDRES application in order to receive advanced standing credit. This will ensure that your academic credentials are equivalent to baccalaureate degrees in social work in the United States.

You may learn more about the ISWDRES and begin the application at http://www.cswe.org/CentersInitiatives/TrainingCareers/22207/22213.aspx.

If any English as a Second Language courses are required by the School, costs are not included in this estimate.

* Living expenses listed are based on estimates for 2011-2012 school year.

** Expenses for books and supplies vary.

Initial Expenses

Students living off-campus should bring with them sufficient traveler's checks to pay for rental and utility deposits, the first month's rent, and household furnishings. The figures below indicate the approximate range of those expenses.

  • Rental deposit and first month's rent $450-$1,600
  • Utility and phone deposits $150-$300
  • Household furnishings $300-$1,800

This cost outline covers only minimal essential expenditures. Items such as clothing, recreation and incidentals are variable, and the cost of travel outside St. Louis is not included.

To receive a visa, you will be required to document your ability to meet these expenses. See the Affidavit of Financial Support

If you have someone in the United States who will provide Room and Board for you at no charge you can deduct $11,870 from your cost of living, making $6,130 the amount you must show.  A letter of support from your sponsor must accompany the affidavit.
