Message from Edward F. Lawlor

Dean and the William E. Gordon Professor

"The Brown School is a special community. The energy and excellence of our faculty, the diversity and commitment of our students, and the extraordinary resources of our School and Washington University combine to create an exciting environment."

Edward F. Lawlor has been widely published on access to health care, health care reform, policy analysis, and aging. A national
Medicare expert, he teaches classes in health policy and services.

"We aim to lead the creation and application of research in social work. We encourage our faculty, staff, students, and graduates to be change agents locally, nationally, and internationally. Our School has generated internationally important ideas and policy strategies — such as asset creation as a fundamental social development strategy to address global poverty.

“Our School is transforming social service systems through evidence-based approaches to interventions, quality improvement, and organizational change. Our graduates are taking on the most challenging and important policy, practice, and management roles.

“I encourage you to learn more about this special community we have created at Washington University in St. Louis. I hope you will join us in this important pursuit of knowledge and social change."
