Social work research should be focused on questions that have the potential to inform and improve social work practice, according Enola K. Proctor, associate dean for research at the Brown School. In this first issue of Knowledge Monographs, Dr. Proctor explores five pressing questions about social work research:
- What are the practices in social work practice?
- How does social work practice vary?
- What is the value of social work practice?
- What practices should social workers use?
- How can social work practice be improved?
"The progress of social work research and the social work profession is inextricably linked. We need to be advancing research that has significant impact on practice, organizational performance, and policy," says Edward F. Lawlor, dean and the William E. Gordon Professor. “Professor Proctor’s monograph is an exemplar of this linkage, addressing questions at the intersection of research on evidence-based practice and implementation.”
Knowledge Monographs will be published periodically as a supplement to Social Impact, the Brown School’s magazine. Knowledge Monographs can be re-printed without permission with appropriate credit to the publication, School, and University.
