Brown School MSW students can choose from two winter Institute’s this year, each offering an opportunity for international travel and educational exchange in India.
Mental disorders place a significant disease burden on our global society, but reducing this burden is often not a priority in developing countries. Students will travel to Chennai and Mumbai, India, as well as Kathmandu, Nepal, to assess scarcity, inequity and inefficiency of resources available to address this problem. This Institute is jointly offered by the Brown School, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, and the Banya.
Depletion of natural resources - including ground water throughout India and in particular Western India – makes this Institute both valuable and timely. Held in Udaipur in Western India, this Institute will bring together experts from the Foundation for Ecological Security (India), The Tata Institute of Social Sciences, and the Indian Institute of Technology (Bombay). These experts will work with students to develop real-world case studies illustrating the complex inter-relationship between energy, environment, and development along the rural to urban continuum.
